Robert EUSTACE, born July 24th 1840, was the son of James Eustace;
High Sheriff of Carlow in 1874, and Emily Catherine Stack, a Roman Catholic,
born in India about
1839. She was the
daughter of General Sir
Maurice Stack,
K.C.B., of Broomville,
Co. Carlow. Robert
Eustace was born around
July 24th 1840,
in Tullow. He became an
army doctor and married
Jessie Belfour in
Ireland.
They had a son Robert
Eustace who was born
Aug. 6th 1873.
Robert and Jessie with
their son left for
Canada in approximately
1878
on the boat called
Jeanie Johnson that left
Ireland and landed
in St. Andrews, New
Brunswick. Jessie
Belfour died on Jan. 4th
1877
at the age of 25 years
soon after arriving in
New Brunswick.
She is buried in St
John. Robert Eustace was
told that a doctor
was needed in Canso,
Nova Scotia so he went
there with his 5 year
old son.
In Canso, Robert married
to Agnes Hanlon from
Canso and had 2 boys,
Harding and Edward.
Agnes took her two sons
to the United States
(possibly Gloucester,
Massachusetts) after his
death.
Harding Eustace died
young.
